Silently repeating to herself the list of herbs Perie had asked for, Brileia hurried towards the stillroom, white skirts swirling about her dainty ankles. Thankfully she had some knowledge of what they looked like, her mother having deemed that to be a necessary component of her education. Small fingers deftly sorted through various aromatic plants, setting aside blue goatflowers, boneknit and lionheart. She paused a moment before quickly grabbing the jar of dried willow and an already prepared ointment made up of ground ivy, five-finger and sunburst root. All the requested herbs gathered, the young Novice brought them back to the curtained-off area where Perie Sedai was currently attending to the injured trainee. She set the basket of herbs down and then rushed away to fetch several clean towels and a basin.

After filling the basin with water, Brileia found herself being sent to fulfill other tasks, Perie Sedai needing the help of someone more experienced than her with this particular patient. Admittedly she was very curious as to how the Aes Sedai was going to treat such an injury, especially with the One Power at her disposal. While she never seen a bone broken to that extent before, Brileia was certain that it would take a long time to heal the normal way, and she wondered if the trainee would be able to use his arm in the same way once it was healed. Perhaps once her penance was through, Perie Sedai might be willing to indulge her curiosity and answer a few questions regarding healing injuries with the One Power.

Seeing that she interrupted the Aes Sedai when she was checking on the only long-term patient in the infirmary, the young Novice thought it might be a good idea to check on the pregnant woman, just to be certain that everything was well with her. Quietly she announced herself before slipping past the drawn curtain that gave the young woman some semblance of privacy within the infirmary. Dipping into a slight curtsy, Brileia quickly introduced herself to the patient before politely asking her how she was feeling. She was a bit surprised when the young woman asked her to join her and just talk with her for a while. Seeing no reason to deny the request, the novice sat near the woman’s bedside, quietly conversing with the older woman.

In truth, she found it rather fascinating to listen to the tales that Elidei, as the woman had insisted she call her by her first name, shared with her. Despite the fact that she was now in training to become an Aes Sedai, Brileia had always been enamored with babies and children. If not for her having the Spark, she was certain that her parents would have married her off already, and then she would have been expecting as well. Children…that was the only thing she would miss about marriage in the future, of that she was very certain. Shaking away those thoughts, the young Novice took her leave from Elidei’s side just long enough to fetch a nutritious lunch for the woman, intent on making certain that she was taken care of while Perie Sedai was still occupied with the other patient

After dumping out the last bucket of filthy water, Brileia paused a moment to wring out each cloth she’d used for that particular chore. She glanced around at the areas she’d cleaned, satisfied that she had done a good job, at least until it needed to be done again. Gathering up the cleaning supplies, she quietly began to put them back in their place within the cupboard, taking care to leave them in the same way she’d found them. A commotion at the door of the infirmary caught her attention, making the petite Novice turn from the cupboard to see what was going on. Cerulean eyes widened slightly at the sight of a gaidin-in-training being supported by another, his face pale and drawn. Seeing that Perie Sedai was currently checking on the young pregnant woman from Tar Valon, Brileia hurried over to greet the two politely. “Good afternoon, gentlemen. Perie Sedai is currently with another patient, but is there something I can do for you?” The taller of the two was the one to answer, as he helped the other trainee to sit down on the bed Brileia had indicated. “Gyabrel had a bit of an accident during training. We think that he may have broken his arm.” A broken arm? Well, Brileia really wasn’t qualified to do anything about that, other than to make certain he was comfortable and ready for Perie Sedai when she was finished with the other patient. Her eyes dropped to the trainee’s left arm, it being very obvious that there was something very wrong with it. She frowned slightly before addressing the man sitting on the bed. “Well, it would be best for Perie Sedai to make that diagnosis. But for now, you should get out of your shirt so that she can see the area better. Or...rather...” Her gaze shifted to the other trainee standing beside him. “Would you please help him with it? Just cut that sleeve away so that his arm isn’t disturbed too much. I’m going to fetch Perie Sedai.” With one last concerned glance at the trainee, the young Novice quickly made her way across the infirmary to the small area set aside for the pregnant patient. Slipping past the drawn curtain, she immediately slipped into a respectful curtsy before the Aes Sedai as well as the patient. “Forgive me for interrupting, Aes Sedai. But there is another patient in the infirmary that desperately requires your attention. I’m afraid that it is beyond my capabilities.” Lapsing into silence, she waited patiently for Perie Sedai to step from behind the curtain before continuing. “One of the gaidin-in-training is waiting for you over here, Perie Sedai. His friend thinks that he may have broken his left arm. And honestly, by the looks of it, there is something very wrong. But I thought it would be better to bring it to your attention right away.” Brileia watched silently as the Yellow sister stepped behind the other curtain to examine the trainee. Gyabrel was very pale and clammy as he sat there on the bed, his shirt having been cut off him while she had been retrieving Perie Sedai. His arm was obviously broken, the bone having punctured through the skin just above the elbow. The young Novice winced at the sight of it before looking away, her attention brought back to the Aes Sedai, who was quick to send her off to gather the needed supplies for this particular patient.
