Novice Narin Marles, Written by Chris

Narin sat curled up in a chair late into the night. She had finished her chores and lessons hours ago and had decided to spend the little free time she received as a novice studying books in the library. The words all seemed to blur together after reading so long, but she had to find something. She had finally finished her embracing lessons and could finally summon saidar almost at will now. There was the odd time that she couldn’t on the first attempt, but rarely did she have to try a third attempt. Still it was only during channeling that she was free and felt free from her emotions that weighed her down. True chores helped in that they distracted her at least some times they did anyways, but other times like when she was scrubbing the floor and they weren’t allowed to talk it left time for the mind to wander and that was when the emotions flooded back to her like a tidal wave.
She had hoped that by visiting the library that she would find a book on relaxaction or something to help her function better. Even if she could find something to help her sleep that would be something. No matter how much she tried not to think about it her dreams more often than not swept her back in time to the day that Noah was taken and her being powerless to stop it. She shook her head not wanting to think about that especially right at this moment when she was trying to find answers in this book. She knew from experience that if she let her mind stay on that path too long that whatever she was trying to do would be worthless because she wouldn’t be able to concentrate on the task.
A brown sister approached her and Narin stood up giving the Aes Sedai a curtsy. Narin tried to stand up after the curtsy, but found her legs weak after having them curled under herself for so long. The Aes Sedai caught her before she had a chance to fall. “Are you alright child, that position you were in really isn’t good for the posture and reading books for so long especially late into the evening will drain you as well. What are you reading anyway?” The Aes Sedai grabbed the book before Narin had a chance to cover it. “Hmm,” she mumbled. “So your having trouble sleeping are you? Nightmares?”
“Yes, Aes Sedai.” Narin didn’t go into more detail hoping that the Aes Sedai would not prod her more on what the nightmares were or why she was having them.
The Aes Sedai eyed the girl wondering what to say to her. True she was of the brown Aes Sedai, but that didn’t mean that like her sisters that she was totally void of all emotions especially when someone was clearly studying books for a solution to their problems. From her experience unless someone truly loved books they only looked to them when all other attempts had failed.
“Child, why don’t you accompany me to my rooms for a while? I was about to kick you out of the library anyway, as it’s getting rather late.” Narin nodded as the Aes Sedai put a comforting hand on her shoulders as she led her out. The gesture was probably so that she would not fall again, but was also comforting as well. It was only when they were in the Aes Sedai’s room, which was like most brown ajah members only a few feet from the library, that she broke the silence.
“Child why do you study books on meditation and dream wards? That stuff is dangerous you know and given that you are still a novice you are not allowed to channel unsupervised and that rule is mostly for your safety.” She looked at Narin with concern more than anger or annoyance that Narin might actually try anything in the books.
Narin sat at the table in the seat that the Aes Sedai had pulled out for her before answering the Aes Sedai, “I was more interested in the relaxation techniques than the wards as I have these reoccurring nightmares that I can’t shake.” She still did not want to tell the Aes Sedai the whole story even though the woman had shown concern for her and understanding of sorts.
The Aes Sedai sighed as she stood. Something was obviously bothering this novice for her to be so guarded with the information she gave. Perhaps a nice conversation with a cup of tea would relax them both. “Where are my manners I’ve been so worried about why you were reading those books that I totally forgot to introduce myself."
OOC: Open to anyone willing to work with me on Narin overcoming her guilt over her brother's kidnapping 4 years ago. It's all in her bio, but for quick reference she blames herself for not being able to stop it even though she was only 10 years old. Narin has become desperate to rid herself of the memories though I dont' think she has really dealt with them and instead has suppressed them. I'm hoping to draw this out over a small period of time as this isn't something that will just vanish with a simple talk. NPC's are welcome if anyone wishes to make up a character as well. Email me if you have any questions and thank you to whoever takes up this task.
