Procedures

This page is intended to explain the procedures of competition and selection behind the Officer's Picks and Site Picks.

Officer's Picks

The Officer's Picks are an organized method of recognition among the WoTRP's administration. Every month, half the Officers pick pieces of outstanding writing. Usually this writing consists of strings, which are a number of consecutive posts, but occasionally the Officers also choose one post, lessons or even biographies. Both MRPs and the two Raisings may also be chosen for recognition. These strings are archived into this site permanently so that everyone can read their writing. However, Officers are not allowed to choose their own strings - for example, Joni could not choose a string of her own, but she could choose one of Donna's. For every two strings of a writer that are chosen, that writer can opt to deduct one requirement for a character of their choice.  That character must be one of their own, and MRPs and Raisings are not applicable!

Site Picks

The Site Picks is an awards program honoring the site's very best writers. Every six months, we select categories of competition. These are Best Biography, Best MRP, Best Raising, Best in White Tower, Best in Black Tower, Best in GiT, Best in Patterns Society, Best Cross-Section, and a final "write in" vote for Best Overall.  The categories are divided into character-specific and string-specific. For each of these, potential competitors are allowed to nominate themselves on the nominations page--and are in fact encouraged to do so. However, strings previously selected through the Officer's Picks are automatically taken into consideration for all of the competitive categories.

We have held six competitions for the Site Picks in the past: October 1, 2003; April 1, 2004; October 1, 2004; June 1,2005, December 2005 and June 2006.

The nominations for the next edition of the Site Picks will open October 20, 2006 and will close a month later, on November 21, 2006. Around November 30, these nominees will be announced on the site, and the ballots will be open. Any member of the site can vote, but they must provide their email and characters so that we can make sure no one votes more than once.  Additionally, when voting, all categories must be voted on, otherwise the ballot is not counted.

Winners will be announced around December 14, 2006. As a reward, they will receive a signature graphic that they can use whenever they like and bigger award graphics will be placed in their character's biography. Also, they will receive three free credits for every category they win. These credits can be applied to any of the characters at any amount; in other words, the credits need not be evenly apportioned between characters. As with the Officer's Picks, they cannot use these free credits for MRPs or raisings.

Please note that winners from any previous Site Picks cannot re-enter the same character or string into the category in which they won the first time, and all entries should have been written since the last edition of the Site Picks - in other words, they should have finished after May 31, 2006.
